Miles vs cashback for a travel goal
Miles can beat cashback on a flight and lose if you never transfer them. Cashback is simple and often weaker on travel. Choose the currency that matches the goal, then earn only that.
Value appears at burn, not at earn
A high earn rate in cashback can still lose to a lower earn rate in miles if the flight redemption is rich. The reverse is also true: unused miles that expire are worth zero.
If the goal is a gadget or a bill, cashback or a statement-friendly program is cleaner. If the goal is a flight in a known window, miles or a travel portal usually pay more.
Do not mix currencies without a reason
Holding five programs 'for flexibility' often means no program reaches a ticket. Pick one or two burn paths for the next trip. Put eligible spends there.
Perks Premium is built around a goal and a redemption type. Logging and card picks stay free regardless of which currency you chose.
- Trip with a date: prefer miles or a travel portal.
- No trip: cashback is simpler to use.
- Do not redeem travel points as statement credit by habit.
How Perks helps you choose
Set the redemption type on a Premium goal after invite. Until then, decide miles or cashback yourself and log spends so everyday orders still earn.
Common questions
- Are miles better than cashback in India?
- On a trip you will actually book, miles or a travel portal often beat cashback. If you will not transfer or fly, cashback is safer.
- Can I collect both?
- You can, but a near-term goal is easier with one primary currency so the balance reaches a redemption.
- Does Perks pick miles or cashback for me?
- You choose the goal type. Perks ranks cards for the checkout in front of you. Premium planning uses the redemption type you set.
