A vague wish list does not steer spend. Write the target in rupees or in the redemption you want, such as flights, a hotel stay, or a gadget, and put a month on it.

The redemption type matters because points are not cash. Travel transfers and portal bookings often pay more than statement credit. If the goal is a flight, plan toward miles or a travel portal, not a cashback leftover.

Work backward from the deadline

Once the date is set, the question is which upcoming spends can fund it. Rent, fuel, and some government payments often earn little or nothing. Groceries, dining, and supported online checkouts are usually the spends you can aim.

You do not need a perfect forecast. You need a short list of cards and categories that move the goal, and a habit of using them before the deadline.
