How to make a credit card spending plan
A spending plan is a short list: which card for which recurring spend until a date. It is not a budget app. It is a way to stop the default card from eating a goal.
List spends you can steer
Write the next month of groceries, dining, online orders, and travel. Leave out rent and other excluded charges. Those lines do not belong on a reward plan.
Next to each line, put the card that still has cap room or a milestone gap. If two cards could work, prefer the one whose burn path matches the goal.
Review once a month, not every swipe
Caps reset. Milestones complete. A plan that is not reviewed becomes last month's habit. The first of the month is enough for most people.
Perks Premium is built to map spends toward a goal after invite. Logging and free card picks keep the plan live, not only a document.
- Steer only the spends that earn.
- Assign each line to one card for the month.
- Revisit when a cap fills or a milestone completes.
How Perks helps with a spending plan
Logging and card picks stay free. Premium planning is in the app after a waitlist invite. Website paid checkout is not live.
Common questions
- What is a credit card spending plan?
- A dated list of which card to use for each recurring earnable spend so a goal gets funded on purpose.
- Do I need a spreadsheet?
- No. A note with four or five spend lines and a card next to each is enough if you update it when caps change.
- Does Perks create the plan?
- Premium spending plans are an invite feature. Until then, log spends and use free card picks to assign recurring spends yourself.
